Bhrigu Lake Trek
Close enough to habitation, yet in a secluded, lush green dale, the Bhirgu Lake is at an altitude of 4235 metres. It lies east of the Rohtang Pass and is about 6 km from the village of Gulaba. The shores of this clear water lake are visited regularly by the people of the area and are held sacred to ‘rishi’ Brighu.
Day1: Manali-Gulaba:
We drive 15 Kms up the Manali-Rohtang Highway to the meadows of Gulaba. The views of the upper Kullu valley from here are quite spectacular. The trail goes eastwards and climbs steadily through forests. We walk slowly as the altitude can make you a little breathless. We cross a mountain stream and then keep climbing till we cross a mountain ridge beyond which lies the Bhrighu Lake at an altitude of 4270m. We reach this beautiful lake by late afternoon and set up camp.
Day 2:
At Bhrighu Lake . We spend the day at leisure taking in the magnificent mountain views all around. Camp overnight on the lakeshore.
Day 3:
Bhrighu – Vashisht: Today leaving the lake we walk across a small meadow and climbing up to a mountain ridge begin our steep descent to the village of Vashisht in the upper Kullu valley. The descent offers great views of the entire Kullu valley and we walk though forests and slowly emerge into apple orchards and finally reach Vashisht by evening. From here Manali is just 3 Kms away.
