In-Cabin Pets
- Pets Allowed: Small dogs, cats, and household birds.
- Carrier Requirements: The pet must be in a soft- or hard-sided carrier that fits under the seat in front of you. The carrier must be secure, well-ventilated, and comfortable for the pet.
- Dimensions: The carrier should not exceed 18” x 11” x 11” (L x W x H) for hard-sided carriers, and 18” x 11” x 11” for soft-sided carriers. The total weight of the pet and carrier should not exceed 17 lbs (8 kg).
- Cost: United Airlines charges a fee for pets traveling in the cabin, which varies based on the route. The fee can be confirmed on United's official website.
- Limitations: Only one pet carrier is allowed per passenger, and a limited number of pets are allowed in the cabin per flight. Early booking is advised.
PetSafe Program (Cargo)
Policy: Larger pets or those that do not meet the in-cabin requirements can travel via United's PetSafe program, which ensures safe and comfortable transportation in the cargo hold. The cargo hold is temperature-controlled and pressurized.
Service Animals
Policy: United Airlines allows service animals to accompany passengers with disabilities in the cabin at no extra charge. Documentation and advance notice are required, especially for international flights.
Emotional Support Animals
Policy: United Airlines no longer recognizes emotional support animals as service animals. These animals must travel as pets under the in-cabin pet policy, and applicable fees will apply.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Vaccinations: Pets must have up-to-date vaccination records and comply with the destination's health requirements.
- Behavior: Pets must remain in their carrier throughout the flight and should not cause any disturbance. Disruptive animals may be denied boarding.
Booking
- Reservations: It is strongly recommended to make a reservation for your pet as early as possible due to the limited number of pets allowed on each flight.
- Check-In: Passengers traveling with pets must check in at the airport counter, as online check-in is not available for passengers with pets.
Destinations
- Restrictions: Certain international destinations may have restrictions or specific requirements for pet travel. It is important to verify these regulations before your flight.
