Eligibility
- Age: United Airlines offers an Unaccompanied Minor service for children aged 5 to 14 years who are traveling alone. Children aged 15 to 17 can also use this service if requested by the parent or guardian.
- Flights: The service is available for both domestic and international flights. However, the service is not available for all types of flights, such as some connecting flights or flights operated by partner airlines.
Fees
Cost: The fee for the Unaccompanied Minor service is $150 USD each way per child, in addition to the ticket price. This fee covers the supervision and assistance provided by United staff.
Booking Process
- Reservations: The Unaccompanied Minor service can be booked online or by calling United Airlines' customer service. It is recommended to book this service as early as possible to ensure availability.
- Required Information: When booking, provide the names, addresses, and phone numbers of the person dropping off the child and the person picking them up at the destination.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
- Check-In: The guardian dropping off the child must check in at the airport and accompany the child to the gate. The guardian must remain at the airport until the flight has departed.
- Pick-Up: The designated person picking up the child must arrive at the airport early, provide valid identification, and wait in the designated area. Only the person specified during the booking will be allowed to pick up the child.
In-Flight Experience
Supervision: United Airlines staff will supervise the child during the flight, assist with boarding, seating, and deplaning, and ensure the child is comfortable throughout the journey.
Connections
Transfer Assistance: For flights with connections, United Airlines staff will assist with the transfer and ensure the child boards the connecting flight safely.
Important Considerations
- Behavior: The child must be able to follow instructions from the crew and behave appropriately during the flight. United Airlines reserves the right to refuse service if the child cannot travel alone.
- Documentation: Ensure the child has all necessary documentation, including a passport for international flights, visas if applicable, and contact information for the guardians.
