Eligibility
- Age: KLM Airlines offers a special Unaccompanied Minor service for children aged 5 to 14 years who are traveling alone. Children aged 15 to 17 can also use this service if requested by the parent or guardian.
- Flights: The service is available for direct flights as well as for flights with connections. However, specific rules may apply depending on the route and connection time.
Fees
Cost: A fee is charged for the Unaccompanied Minor service. The fee varies depending on the route and can be confirmed during booking. This fee is in addition to the price of the flight ticket.
Booking Process
- Reservations: The Unaccompanied Minor service cannot be booked online. You must contact KLM customer service or your travel agent to make a reservation for this service.
- Required Information: When booking, you will need to provide detailed information about the child, the guardian dropping them off, and the person picking them up at the destination.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
- Check-In: The child must be checked in by a parent or guardian at the airport. The guardian must remain at the airport until the flight has departed.
- Pick-Up: The guardian picking up the child at the destination must arrive at the airport early, provide valid identification, and wait in the designated area. Only the person specified during the booking process will be allowed to pick up the child.
In-Flight Experience
Supervision: During the flight, KLM Airlines staff will ensure the child is well taken care of. They will assist the child with boarding, seating, and deplaning, and make sure the child is comfortable throughout the journey.
Connections
Transfer Assistance: If the child’s journey involves a transfer at another airport, KLM staff will supervise the child during the connection and ensure they board the connecting flight safely.
Important Considerations
- Behavior: The child must be able to follow instructions from the crew and behave appropriately during the flight. KLM Airlines reserves the right to refuse service if the child cannot travel alone.
- Documentation: Ensure the child has all necessary documentation, including a valid passport, visas if applicable, and contact information for the guardians.
