It was a crisp, early morning in Delhi when we, four retired government servants, board on our long-awaited spiritual journey to the Char Dham. After years of a busy life, we finally had the time to fulfill our dream of visiting the sacred shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Our group consisted of Ranjit Singh (62), Sudhir Tanwar (63), Jivan Ram (66), and Satish Rathi (67). Accompanying us was our young and energetic driver, Naveen (35), who was well-versed with the routes and had promised to make our journey smooth and memorable.

We started our journey at 5:00 AM from Delhi. Naveen arrived promptly, and after loading our luggage into the SUV, we set off towards Haridwar. The excitement was palpable as we left the bustling city behind and entered the serene landscapes of Uttar Pradesh.
Around 8:00 AM, Naveen suggested a break near Muzaffarnagar on NH-58. He took us to Mohan Lal Dhaba, which was no ordinary dhaba but a full-fledged 3-star hotel. The place was bustling with travelers, including a few foreigners enjoying the view from the balcony. We ordered some buns and tea, while Naveen opted for parathas and tea. The view from the balcony was breathtaking, with lush green farms stretching as far as the eye could see. It was the perfect start to our journey.
After the refreshing break, we continued towards Haridwar. By late afternoon, we reached the holy city and checked into a comfortable hotel. In the evening, we visited Har Ki Pauri to witness the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti. The spiritual ambiance filled our hearts with peace and anticipation for the days ahead.
The next morning, we left early for Barkot, the base for Yamunotri. The drive was scenic, with the Himalayas gradually coming into view. We reached Barkot by evening and checked into a cozy guesthouse. After a hearty dinner, we retired early, as the next day would involve a trek to Yamunotri.
We started early for Janki Chatti, the starting point of the Yamunotri trek. From there, we trekked 6 km to reach the Yamunotri Temple. The trek was challenging but rewarding, with stunning views of the mountains and the gushing Yamuna River. At the temple, we took a dip in the hot water spring (Surya Kund) and offered prayers to Goddess Yamuna. The sense of accomplishment and devotion was overwhelming.
After the darshan, we trekked back to Janki Chatti and returned to Barkot for the night.
The next morning, we drove to Uttarkashi, the base for Gangotri. The journey was filled with picturesque views of the Bhagirathi River and the surrounding mountains. In Uttarkashi, we visited the Vishwanath Temple and spent the evening in quiet reflection.
Early in the morning, we left for Gangotri. The drive was serene, and the air was filled with a sense of divinity. At the Gangotri Temple, we offered prayers to Goddess Ganga and soaked in the spiritual atmosphere. The sound of the flowing Bhagirathi River added to the tranquility of the place.
After the darshan, we returned to Uttarkashi for the night.
The next day, we drove to Guptkashi, the base for Kedarnath. The journey was long but scenic, with views of the Tehri Dam and the lush green valleys. We reached Guptkashi by evening and rested for the night.
Early in the morning, we drove to Sonprayag and then took a shared jeep to Gaurikund, the starting point of the Kedarnath trek. From there, we trekked 16 km to reach the Kedarnath Temple. The trek was arduous but spiritually uplifting. At the temple, we offered prayers to Lord Shiva and felt a deep sense of peace and fulfillment.
We spent the night in Kedarnath, surrounded by the majestic Himalayas.
After morning darshan at the Kedarnath Temple, we trekked back to Gaurikund and returned to Guptkashi for the night.
The next day, we drove to Badrinath, the final destination of our Char Dham Yatra. The journey took us through Joshimath, where we visited the Narsingh Temple. By evening, we reached Badrinath and checked into a hotel.
Early in the morning, we visited the Badrinath Temple and took a dip in the Tapt Kund. The darshan was a deeply spiritual experience. Afterward, we explored Mana Village, the last village before the Indo-Tibetan border.
The next day, we drove back to Haridwar, stopping at Devprayag to witness the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers. By evening, we reached Haridwar and checked into a hotel.
After breakfast, we started our journey back to Delhi. As we reflected on our spiritual journey, we felt a deep sense of gratitude and fulfillment. The Char Dham Yatra had not only brought us closer to the divine but also strengthened the bond of friendship among us.
Our Char Dham Yatra was a journey of faith, friendship, and self-discovery. From the challenging treks to the serene temples, every moment was filled with spiritual bliss. Naveen, our driver, played a crucial role in making the journey smooth and enjoyable. As we returned to Delhi, we carried with us memories that would last a lifetime and a renewed sense of purpose.
In the afternoon, we drove to Rudraprayag and spent the night there
